Parachute cord is the lightweight nylon cord used in the suspension lines of US parachutes during World War II. Now it is used as a general purpose utility cord by both the military and civilians. The braided sheath has a high number of interwoven strands giving it a smooth texture. The all-nylon construction makes parachute cord weather and fade resistant.

The handiness of having high pound test cord while out on a FEX can not be overstated. Servicemembers know that when they're in the field they need 550 cord to tie up other gear, set up a patrol base, and create shelter.
